Re: Special comment tonight
Just to be clear, this is a NEW show and not a repeat of KO's earlier health care show ?
Just curious, since he wasn't on last night.

I hope he really sticks it to Lieberman because that man is a disgusting human being.

Re: Special comment tonight
I'm almost afraid to watch.
Whatever he says, I'm sure Lieberman will care less. Having said that:
He's taking his $$ and running to the bank with it. Thousands of deaths will be on his head. I hope he rots in hell.

Re: Countdown 12/16/09
Keith Olbermann, I'm so proud of you for standing up for all of us Americans. You told it like it is! Thank you, thank you.
I will also go to JAIL with you because I will not buy into this scam of a bill and I will not pay crooks anymore of my money. Your mother raised a great son, she is smiling down on you. Let them try and fine me. I will stand out on the coldes day and freeze before I let anyone tell me to give my money to slavery or to an insurance company who would strive to control this country. Lieberman will be run out of town on a rail. He is a Judas who took 30 pieces of gold for his payment, let him hang! And if the President wants to hang with him, so be it. The people will speak with votes of NO when his term is up. I don't care how many things he has signed while in office this year, it does not compare to what this health care reform would have given him. This is not just a mistake in judgement, it is death for the Democratic Party and his career.

Re: Countdown 12/16/09
Obama sucks. I knew that we should have picked Hillary. I knew it.
Howard Dean for president in 2012, anybody?
Or Hillary.
Or Chris Dodd.
Or even Alan Gracen.
Anybody would be better than this coward that goes by the name of Obama.
If only true Democrats were allowed to vote, he wouldn't have won the nomination in the first place. All these idiots who fell for his celebrity hype skewed the vote. Any nominee that we put up would have defeated McCain/Palin.

During the hour preceding Countdown, my husband and I were discussing where they should take health care legislation, having lost both the public option and the Medicare buy-in. Both of us decided that they should either drop the requirement that everyone purchase private health insurance (AKA the "mandate"), or they should scrub the current deal and proceed immediately to reconciliation.
I don't know what it means that the two of us and Keith all agree with Howard Dean, but I was happy to hear him say so!

Re: Countdown 12/16/09
The biggest problem with President Obama is that he expects to talk to people rationally which will make them respond in kind. Bipartisanship can be a wonderful thing, but it requires both parties willingness to play before the possibility of achieving it can exist. Well, the GOP doesn't want to play, as they have made clear from Day One. Keith Olbermann is right--if the political opposition is going to put its own perceived political advantage ahead of everything else, and they are going to call the president a socialist, or worse, no matter what he does, it is past time for the president to stand tall and do what's right by the rest of us. So far, I am not seeing the change I voted for last November, and my disappointment is beyond palpable.

First I have to say Bravo, Keith! Your special comment was fantastic! I totally agreed with everything you said. I also agree with you, Michael. I am disgusted with Obama. I am totally frustrated with him. When is he going to act like the President? When is he going to stand up to the Republicans and Joe Lieberman and stop cowtowing to them in the name of bipartisanship? I was a Hilary supporter during the primaries but of course switched my allegience to Obama when he won the nomination. Now I am beginning to have nagging doubts. Not that I ever would have voted for McCain/Palin in a million years but how I wish Hilary would have won the nomination instead. I cannot see her allowing the Republicans to get away with what they have so far if she were president.
You can tell how sincere Keith is after his special comments by how visibly upset he gets. Last night he could barely speak to Rachel Maddow when he signed off to her. His obvious sincerity always shines through and is one of the many things I love about him.

Re: Countdown 12/16/09
Liebermann's campaign may be heading towards a slow death all on its own. He can't be doing well in CT. If he is threatening to maybe run as a repub, I am sure he is even further enraging his base there. I hope it won't take much to get him out of the senate and politics in general.

Michael wrote:Suzy, I would think one of the first things that should be done is to strip him of all seniority and committee chairmanship, so that he becomes essentially worthless to the people of Connecticut. He's not a Democrat, and therefore never deserved a committee chairmanship.
I agree on all counts. I don't know the reasoning behind Pelosi and Reids decisions on Liebermann. But if the senate won't do what they should regarding him, I sure hope the people do. If Ned Lamont runs against Liebermann again, helping his campaign might be a very good idea.
